Taylor Wimpey marches on with Folkestone barracks resi project

Shortly after Christmas, Taylor Wimpey began work on the first of eight separate residential sites within Folkestone's Shorncliffe Garrison - a barracks since the Napoleonic wars - with an archaeological dig. For each phase, Taylor Wimpey will pay an undisclosed sum for the freehold to the Defence Infrastructure Organisation. The money will pay for improvements to a reduced, 110-acre Shorncliffe Garrison, occupied by the Royal Gurkha Rifles. By 2026, Taylor Wimpey's 77 acres will accommodate 1,200 homes. Property Week caught up with Jo Webb, Taylor Wimpey's senior land and planning manager, and the scheme's masterplanner, Hilary Satchwell, director of Tibbalds Planning & Urban design, to check on the development's progress.
