South-west sheds on supermarkets' lists

Two of the UK's largest supermarket chains are looking for distribution centres totalling 900,000 sq ft in the south-west.Under 'Project Penguin', Asda is searching for a 500,000 sq ft shed around Bristol, and the Co-op wants 400,000 sq ft on the M3.Asda's agent, Savills, is believed to have invited proposals last week from developers for a new-build shed in the Avonmouth area of the M5. Among the contenders are St Modwen's 220 acre Access 18 site, former ICI land owned by Israeli pension fundmanager Ariva, and up to 40 acres on 100 acres of adjacent land Tesco bought from Redraw last year.
