摘要

The collapse of retailer Woolworths in 2008, which saw the closure of more than 800 stores, prompted major changes to the UK's high streets and affected thousands of employees who lost theirjobs. Seven years on, around 4,500 former Woolworths employees are still seeking the compensation they were denied by an employment tribunal in 2011. The employees were denied compensation because they had worked in stores with fewer than 20 employees, while those that worked in stores with 20 or more employees received payouts. The ongoing legal battle has major significance for businesses with more than one site, which includes property development businesses, estate agencies and other high street retail chains.
