Edgware mall follows Brent Cross lead with broad leisure plans

Scottish Widows Investment Partnership is planning a substantial leisure-led extension to its recently acquired Broadwalk Centre in Edgware, north London - as nearby retail behemoth Brent Cross prepares for further expansion. Property Week revealed in March 2012 that SWIP had bought the 195,000 sq ft north London mall from Carlyle Group and asset manager Bride Hall for £70m in March 2012. The fund manager has now initiated pre-application discussions with Barnet Council about a supermarket and cinema extension, which could increase the size of the scheme by more than half. The SWIP Property Trust is in talks with existing anchor Sainsbury's about the possibility of increasing the size of its 60,000 sq ft store, which could expand to between 80,000 sq ft and 120,000 sq ft.The proposals also involve adding a cinema of between 30,000 sq ft and 50,000 sq ft, alongside several restaurants.
