Why did you start umpiring? I used to play to a relatively good standard -1 once beat Tim Henman in a schools competition - but I knew I was never going to make it. I got involved with umpiring because it was a good way to keep in touch with the guys that I used to play with. How did you get into it? In 1990 the British Tennis Umpires Association ran a recruitment seminar. They got you on court, fired some balls down and if you called it accurately then you became a member and joined the training course. The experience started then, and now I run the recruitment programme for the Association of British Tennis Officials.
