British Land beefs up prime central London housing presence

British Land is bidding to exploit the booming market for prime housing in central London with "opportunistic" acquisitions of development sites and investments. The latest is 17-19 Bedford Street in Covent Garden, which the REIT is understood to have paid CMS Estates as little as £10m for. British Land is thought to be preparing a planning application for 11,000 sq ft of retail and 17 flats that total 15,000 sq ft at the site, which has been used as serviced offices by MWB Business Exchange.
