NAO reveals skyrocketing debt problem at NHS property arm

In December 2011, when then health secretary Andrew Lansley set up NHS Property Services (NHSPS), a £4bn government-owned property company, the hope was that it would slash the running cost of the estate. However, almost eight years on, a National Audit Office (NAO) report has found that NHSPS has "contributed to increasing levels of outstanding debt" and that it "lacks the powers it needs to make its tenants sign lease agreements and pay their rent".
