Landowners have been warned to be 'extra vigilant' following a sharp rise in 'baled waste crime' in the South East. The Environment Agency (EA) last month urged them to do more to protect their land against baled waste crime - where household, commercial, plastic or industrial waste is compressed and wrapped in plastic strapping to look like silage bales - after an increase in the illegal, large-scale dumping of waste on privately owned sites across Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire since 2017.
