It was at least a decade ago when Bruce Freeman, vice president and chief information officer for Burlington Northern Santa Fe, first got involved with industry efforts to promote "seamless" transportation through interline cooperation. "It seems like it's always been going on," he laments. Finally, Freeman has reason to believe that Interline Service Management (ISM) can be taken off the drawing boards and put to use. BNSF recently completed a successful ISM-related pilot project for Adolph Coors Brewing Co., and the Association of American Railroads says that ISM is ready for implementation by the major railroads.
