TECHNOLOGY'S ROLE: in Safety Management

The adoption of technology can bring many benefits to the construction industry. High levels of technology adoption can help the construction industry progress toward amore productive, efficient process that yields superior performance outcomes with respect to work quality, construction cost, completion schedules and safety. However, the use of technology in a safety context in the construction industry is still limited. The goal of this article is to encourage higher adoption rates of technology in construction especially in the context of safety by providing specific examples of how technology can be used in construction to improve safety performance outcomes. Construction stakeholders are encouraged to use safety technology throughout the project life cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. The use of technology may add extra costs at the beginning, but such costs would be offset in the long run and the safety value of technology use will outweigh the added costs.
