New Programs Focus on Improving Pipeline Systems

DOT is investing $5.9 million for 17 research projects that will develop new, innovative solutions to improve safety within the pipeline management system. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration's projects improve the materials used in the construction of pipelines, improve the system controls, monitoring and operations, and they help prevent damage and provide solutions to detecting leaks. The new projects will focus on developing research projects that address alternative fuels transportation, pipeline construction quality and the detection, prevention and characterization of threats and leaks.
