IUP Safety Sciences Project Receives Alcoa Grant

Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) has received $99,000 from the Alcoa Foundation for research designed to help reduce human error in the workplace. Jan Wachter, CSP, CIH, professor in IUP's Safety Sciences Department and professional member of ASSE's Western Pennsylvania Chapter, will direct the research, which will investigate current worker-engagement tools and develop models for improving human performance in the workplace. Human performance improvement is an approach that can be used to anticipate and minimize human error during work performance. Human error has been associated with the majority of workplace accidents and incidents.
