Construction Safety in a Combat Zone

NMCB 22 was extremely successful during the 2009-10 deployment. Our mission was extended as part of the troop surge. We completed medical facilities, expanded FOBs, repaired oil platforms, repaired infrastructure and completed many other projects with minimal injuries. In a war zone or at a job site, the greatest safety program on the planet will have limited success if it is only followed under threat of disciplinary action or the promise of rewards. A top-down, multifaceted, strong safety culture is an essential element of any successful safety program. With a strong safety culture, the message and commitment permeates every level of an organization and will reduce injuries.
