ANSI B11.0: Safety of Machinery

Bruce: The ANSI B11.0 standard is similar to ANSI/ASSE Z590.3, Prevention Through Design, but it focuses on safety of machinery. B11.0 specifically addresses the responsibilities for both machinery suppliers and users. This is key because incidents often occur when either the supplier or the user makes an assumption regarding responsibilities that were not addressed or not executed. For example, a user may assume that the supplier has provided safeguarding features where, in fact, point-of-operation safeguarding in most machinery is the user's responsibility. Another example: the supplier may assume that the user will process and adapt the information for use in site-specific applications, but users may assume they can simply use the provided information.
