Semisubmersible oil rig stabilized by salvors after Hurricane Dennis

When Hurricane Dennis ripped through the Gulf of Mexico July 10, it was very selective in the damage it caused. Only the moored semisubmersible platform Thunder Horse was damaged. Located in 6,050 feet of water, the platform was reported on July 11 to be listing 20° with one edge of the structure under water. The platform, the largest in the Gulf of Mexico, is owned by a joint venture between its operator, BP (75 percent), and partner ExxonMobile (25 percent). It is located in Mississippi Canyon, 150 miles southeast of New Orleans.
