Delmar Webster considers himself a fortunate man. The first assistant engineer aboard SS Alpena, a Great Lakes cement carrier, Webster has almost unlimited access to the Internet. He uses Ositech's CellFlex technology to connect his PC to a wireless phone network. A card housed in his computer allows him to check email, send faxes and access the Internet in both analog and digital cellular coverage areas. He even does his banking and pays bills online. Webster can do all this because a land-based wireless network exists along the route his ship takes through the Great Lakes.
