Offshore LNG terminal proposed near Los Angeles

BHP Billiton, an Anglo-Australian energy and metals company, has proposed building a $550 million to $600 million floating liquefied-natural-gas (LNG) storage facility and regasification plant 14 miles off the coast of California northwest of Los Angeles. The proposal is part of a surge in LNG plants planned in the United States to meet growing demand for natural gas. The California project, called Cabrillo Port, would have the capacity to store the equivalent of 6 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
