A manager's role will often include supporting team members to take on new responsibilities, particularly in a recession when redundancies may mean remaining staff take on extra duties. For some staff, the prospect of taking on something new may be daunting. An effective manager will know who is likely to adapt quickly and who will require more support.rnThere are many reasons why an employee may experience difficulties in adjusting to new job responsibilities or roles. Sometimes it may be due to lack of clarity about the new role. Research by the Health and Safety Executive has identified lack of role clarity as a factor in causing workplace stress. Employees need to be clear about what they are expected to do and what success criteria will be applied. This is best done in a collaborative discussion with the employee.
