London St Pancras's £800m redevelopment has transformed it from a mid-ranking terminal to London's signature station, linking the capital to continental Europe. The adjoining hotel saw a revamp too. Opened in 1873 by Queen Victoria as the Midland Grand, the impressive Gothic building was described by Sir John Betjeman as "too beautiful and too romantic to survive". Fortunately, he was wrong.
