The spectacle of the senior business executive squirming on a hook while being savaged by a predatory interviewer for some corporate misdemeanour is one that can arouse an ambivalent response in the spectator. There may be touch of schadenfreude, perhaps, But it can also elicit sympathy - or relief that it is not us in the interviewee's hot seat. For fear of getting such a public roasting, few people in senior management positions will relish the prospect of an encounter with the media. Yet, with accountability becoming a conspicuous element of professional life, dealing with the press is an increasingly unavoidable reality.
