Sir Stuart Rose is looking dapper. Not a pewter hair out of place. His piercing blue eyes miss nothing as he jokes with Professional Manager's photographer and fires questions at me: "Is that an M&S dress you're wearing?" he drawls, his accent a confection of broad Yorkshire vowels with a smattering of other, a product of a childhood spent in Tanzania. Rose's own beautifully cut blue suit is certainly no Marks & Spencer creation. "It's a Richard James," he says. "I haven't worked at M&S for three years. Why would I wear the suits?"
