Admit it, you're a liar. Nine million people tell lies in the workplace every day, according to CMI's own figures. Even if you aren't one of them, you probably sit near someone who is. The motives behind our dishonesty differ - from ruthlessly wanting to climb the career ladder to trying to avoid an undesirable project. But Andrew Cunningham, a Harley Street psychologist and hypnotherapist, says just being busy is enough to trigger the storytelling. "Studies show that, given more time, we lie less," he says. "Lying gets us out of a tight spot in the heat of the moment, whereas, given more time, we tell the truth."
