Bungling bosses are reducing UK productivity by asking workers to undertake tasks they are not qualified to perform. A PageGroup survey of 2,000 workers reveals that specialist skills are being diluted within two years of taking a job. The trend is creating a new generation of Jacks of all trades - 51% of those surveyed said they consider themselves generalists despite being hired for their specialist skills. And one in three say the burgeoning ranks of Generation Generalist are affecting economic performance - 31% say it is damaging their productivity.
