Computer-aided design has rapidly matured over the years and has seen rapid growth in many industries. It has developed from being a tool of rich and powerful companies to an essential element for even the smallest firm. The driver for this growth is increased competition. It is the ability to produce new and better products and materials with reduced lead times that generally distinguishes successful companies from the also-rans. Concurrent engineering is a central part of reducing those lead times and central to that is CAD.
