Two actions by CPSC and another by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the week of September 1 address lead paint hazards. They arern1. Accrediting labs: Commissioners are set to vote by September 9 on moving forward on staff's recommendation for accrediting third party labs for assessing lead in paint. Overall, the agency would use ISO /IEC 17025:2005, International Standard- General Requirements for the Compe-tance of Testing and Calibration Laboratories for baseline criteria for any lab. The work accreditation would be by a ILAC-MRA accrediting body (ILAC-MRA = International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation-Mutual Recognition Agreement).
