The International Sleep Products Association (ISPA) April 25 asked CPSC what it should do about the increasing difficulty of finding the necessary ignition source for cigarette flammability tests. It explained that R.J Reynolds no longer makes the Pall Mall cigarettes specified by 16 CFR 1632, meaning they are in short and dwindling supply, if available at all. The company has not discontinued the brand, however, in 2007 it announced that its products would meet reduced ignition standards (PSL, 11/4/07, p. 4) with complete changeover targeted for 2009.rnISPA noted that despite a recent recommendation by CPSC that companies stockpile the cigarettes until an alternative is found, it needs interim advice because "those stocks that do exist are being exhausted rapidly."
