摘要

The length of human telomeres may be determined by complex genetic and environmental factors not yet fully understood by researchers. Previous research has shown that people with shorter leukocyte, or white blood cell, telomeres are more likely to experience aging-related diseases, such as hardening of the arteries, compared to those with longei telomeres. In addition, recent studies on same-sex elderly twins have found that the sibling who possesses shorter leukocyte telomeres is more likely to die first.
