摘要

Nearly a century ago, early experiments in genetics revealed that viable organisms could arise from the addition of a complete genome, but additions or subtractions to single chromosomes usually proved highly deleterious to the phenotype. The observation eventually led to the idea of genetic balance, which posits that regulatory genes exhibit a stoichiometric balance that, if perturbed, modulates the expression of target genes.
