Full scale shaking table tests of beam-to-column welded connections were conducted under loading simulated Hanshin-Awaji earthquake at room temperature. In parallel to this, Charpy impact tests were also carried out. Fracture surface of large beam-to-column welded connections and small Charpy impact specimens were observed by a scaning electron microscope (SEM). The main conclusions obtained are as follows. SEM fractography showed that cleavage was observed in large specimens fractured at room temperature. This confirmed that steel structure components were brittle
