Virtual special issue to mark the 25th anniversary of the Journal of Aerospace Engineering

The year 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the publication of this journal. After some exploratory contacts, that took place in 1988 to create Part G of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the first issue appeared in March 1989. The current Editorial Board decided to celebrate this occasion by publishing a Special Issue in a digital format. As the natural Board representative I have taken two responsibilities: first, to invite Prof. John Hodgkinson, former Editor-in-Chief, who was leading the journal for about 15 years, to elaborate a historical review of this period (you will find his contribution after these paragraphs, in a separate section); and, secondly, to contribute with this Editorial to present it.
