Climate change presents perhaps the most pressing challenge for future generations. Society rightly expects those responsible for securing and sustaining future communities and their supporting infrastructure to properly prepare. The papers published in this issue demonstrate that climate science, and our ability to predict future weather, has advanced substantially in recent years so that future climate change impacts are now sensibly known. This will enable scientists and engineers to work in concert to develop robust response strategies.
