Civil engineers face an increasing risk of being sued for their inappropriate or negligent use of software, according to Erik Winterkorn, director of the UK Construction Industry Computing Association. Civil engineering organizations that have their quality assurance systems assessed and certified are usually obliged to deal with the validation and control of software as it falls within the scope of 'all activities and functions concerned with the attainment of quality'.
