Catastrophic polarization in twisted excited states

摘要

When re-electron systems twist, their polarizabiiity commonly increases. In photo-excited states, dramatic charge shifts can develop when a twist of 90° produces two nearly degenerate pi subsystems. We review here the literature on the subject that is particularly relevant to the development of polarization catastrophes.
