Chemical Production in the Country's East

The author discusses the Russian Ministry of Energy program of modernizing the country's gas and petrochemical industry.Over the past twenty years, the chemical complex has been in a state of stagnation. In 2010 production in the most important areas of inorganic chemistry-sulfuric acid (26 percent), chemical fertilizers (7 percent), soda ash and caustic soda (36 percent)-was 2.2 times lower than 1988 levels. The situation in organic chemistry products was also unfavorable. Production of chemical fibers was 5.5 times lower, and synthetic fibers 7.5 times lower. The rate of growth in plastics remained at a low level, only 1.4 times, while world leaders posted frequent growth.
