Drilling in China

March Madness of a type different than expected followed me on my second trip to Asia last March. Instead of the requested NCAA basketball scores, the numbers that I received at the 10th annual CPCA (China Printed Circuit Association) Show reflected deepening declines in the interconnect business; noted new and additional reductions in workforces at such firms as Motorola, Multek, Photocircuits, and Wus Printed Circuit; described four-day work weeks at such fabs as Litton; and spoke of planned one-, two-, or three-week closures at factories such as Merix's.
