摘要

Geophysics has had an enduring influence on society andhas demonstrated its ability to grow and adapt to a variety ofchallenges. As a science, the term “geophysics” was first used inGermany in the mid 1800s. Since then, geophysics has been akey contributor to society being applied in world wars, enduringcommodity cycles and changing community expectationsand has seen a rapid acceleration of technology. Geophysicshas been part of the sciences that attempt to unravel how wehumans interact with the planet from water to energy, mineralresources, and natural hazard management.
