Return to the City of Richmond

The author submitted this article after reading W. Robert Lange's article on the Old Bay Line that appeared in the Summer 2008 issue of Steamboat Bill. He wrote it shortly following his dive on the City of Richmond and offers it and his underwater photographs to our readers, many of whom have fond memories of this steamer. I rolled backwards, literally and figuratively. We were twenty miles at sea, and the dive charter was anchored over the wreck of the City of Richmond, a 277-foot Chesapeake Bay steamer that had sunk under tow in October 1964 during a storm.
