Remembering John W. 'Jack' Gilbert

Jack Gilbert, founder and president of John W. Gilbert Associates Inc., a Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering firm in Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away at the age of 80 on July 26, 2010. A resident of North Scituate for more than 48 years, Jack was born in 1930 at Silver Creek, New York. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1955. Following eight years service in the Navy, former Lieutenant Gilbert formed his own firm in 1964 and designed over 400 vessels, including research ships, passenger vessels, vehicle ferries, excursion vessels, tugboats, fireboats, river towboats, fishing vessels, and other commercial watercraft.
