Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC), A Pervasive Problem in Fossil and Nuclear Steam-electric power plants, adversely affects the reliability and life of numerous critical components. It is particularly insidious at the highly stressed mating surfaces of steam turbines. Crevice corrosion, crack initiation and crack growth can go undetected for many years, causing irreversible damage and costly failures.
