THE POWER OF MANY

Since 1993, the HRSG User's Group has brought together users, manufacturers, service providers, and engineering consultants from around the world for an in-depth conference on heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs). This April marked the group's 13th annual meeting, though from the standing-room-only crowd and the enthusiasm in the room you might think it was an inaugural event. Chaired by Robert Anderson, Manager of Combined Cycle Services for Progress Energy, the event drew more than 300 attendees—dominated by operators, maintenance supervisors, plant managers, and consulting engineers, who ensure that the meeting stays focused on plant-specific, practical issues (Figure 1). The majority of the HRSG User's Group agenda is devoted to interactive discussions driven by the audience, rather than the traditional formal presentations delivered from a podium. All attendees are invited to raise specific technical issues with the steam systems in their plants, and then other attendees leap in to discuss the issues and share their experience.
