IF YOU LOOK OUT the window while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport, you will see Mirant Corp.'s Potomac River Generating Plant, Since 1949, this facility has provided power to Washington D.C., and the surrounding area. "We run continuously, fully loaded, even though we are more than 50 years old," says Raymond Schlicht, a senior mechanical engineer at the plant. A vital ingredient in keeping the plant up and running is ensuring that the equipment has a continuous supply of clean water.
