Will New Aeroderivative Change the Rules?

Electric cooperatives in South Dakota and Kentucky will be the first power providers in the United States to see if - and to what extent — GE Energy's new LMS100 aeroderivative gas turbine changes the way the power industry thinks about gas turbines and the role they play in today's fast-paced energy market. In late 2005, Basin Electric Power Cooperative's Groton, S.D., station took delivery of GE's first production LMS100, where it will be on-line in time to meet both winter and summer peaks this year. Meanwhile, East Kentucky Power Cooperative gets two LMS100s in 2007 and three more in 2008 at its J.K. Smith plant where seven low-efficiency gas turbine peakers are already located.
