The road leading to the Plains End power sta-tion in the Rocky Mountain foothills outside Denver was filling with snow at the start of a late-December blizzard, the second to hit the area in a week. Inside the 113 MW power plant building, 20 Wartsila 18V34SG reciprocating engines were idle, making it an ideal time for a plant tour. When the engines are running full-out on a hot day in July, carrying on a conversation would be difficult.
