Reducing Noise Levels at the Astoria Power Plant

The quiet giant sits on the edge of the East River, bound to the east and west by Luyster Creek and Steinway Creek in Astoria, N.Y. Aside from the mammoth size of the structure, one would hardly know that the Astoria II gas-fired power plant is constantly pumping 1,100 MW of power into the New York City Power Authority's grid. At the nearest sensitive receiver, the noise emitting from the power plant is just 47 dBA - a noise level quieter than a normal conversation (60dBA).
