Bearing Upgrade Simplifies Power Plant Conveyor Maintenance

At Basin Electric's Leland Olds Station, bearings on coal conveyors were scoring the shafts on which they were mounted because their set screws would not hold securely under the operating conditions. To eliminate the damage caused by the set screw mountings, some bearings were installed with a press fit. However, this required that the shafts be machined to tighter tolerances and the bearings had to be pressed on hydraulically at the site. In an effort to minimize the need for further time-consuming bearing replacements and avoid unscheduled downtime caused by bearing failure, the facility installed Rexnord ZAF6000 series SHURLOK Adapter Mounted Roller Bearings on several applications. They feature a positive locking system that maintains mounting tightness during operation. Installation was easier with the new bearings.
