Recommendations for the evaluation of alternative solvents used for electrical cable cleaning

Recommendations are given as to the test methods and general evaluation criteria used to judge the efficacy of electrical cable cleaners proposed as alternatives for environmentally harmful (and soon to be unavailable) chlorinated hydrocarbons such as trichloroethane. The conformance of a product to the proposed requirements for alternative solvents suggests the product should be acceptable to most power utilities for use as an electrical power cable cleaner.
