Pole slipping of synchronous generators operating in parallel withna utility supply system is a complex phenomenon. This paper provides annoverview of a new solution for pole slipping protection, together with anreview of conventional techniques. Immediate advantages of the newnapproach are that it simplifies relay settings and avoids the need fornextensive simulation studies. Results from simulation studies and fieldntests are used to demonstrate the performance of these systems. The newntechnique is shown to offer a significant improvement in performancenover conventional schemes
