摘要

The paper presents a statistical approach to high-voltagensubstation lightning performance estimation. The method involves thenmonthly distribution of the lightning discharges to the lines,ndetermined according to the line geometry and thunder activity, as wellnas the monthly probability distribution of the substationnconfigurations. The mean time between failure of the power transformerninsulations is estimated for a 400 kV/110 kV transformer substation. Thenpaper provides the analysis of the results obtained for variousndispositions, number and place of positioning the surge arresters, asnwell as the power transformer basic insulation level. The improvednprocedure of the lightning performance estimation can contribute to anmore economical substation design
