New 'long term vision' for Cromarty Firth

An initiative to examine the long-term future of port activities on the Cromarty Firth, one of the largest, deepest and most sheltered areas of water in the UK, has been announced by the Cromarty Firth Port Authority (CFPA). Sited close to the North Sea, the port has developed with a heavy reliance on servicing the offshore oil business. However, now that North Sea activity is slowing down, the CFPA is keen to see the centre of gravity move away from its present position at Invergordon, closer to the mouth of the Firth and is hoping to encourage other industries to locate there. Chairman of the CFPA, a UK Trust Port, Alan Whiteford explained that the port authority will be consulting with local businesses, communities and organisations in the preparation of the new strategy. "We have begun to develop a longer term vision for the port and for the future of the Cromarty Firth. This will provide a framework for developing our strategic partnerships and for evaluating the commercial opportunities which may lie ahead", he declared.
