Boskalis on court to complete Le Havre Port 2000 Dredging by end year

Boskalis International is on track to complete is 9.8 million m3 Le Havre main dredging programme, for the first phase of the 'Port 2000' project, by the end of this year. Work on Le Havre's ambitious development programme began in the Autumn of 2001. The first phase will provide six new berths by 2006, followed by another six by 2010. The aim of the first phase is to double container traffic at North Europe's fourth largest port to 3m teu's over a four year timeframe. Dredging in the access channel and for a six mile long breakwater began in early 2002. The new facilities will receive the largest container vessels, of 7,000 teu's plus and with draughts of up to 14.5m. Port 2000's rationale centres on Le Havre's determination to position itself as a leading hub. This project will absorb around 75 % of the $600m investment scheme to upgrade and expand container and bulk facilities at Le Havre. Shoreside projects include three new logistics parks, adjacent to the container terminals and offering over half a million square feet of warehousing.
